My friends and i decide to go to Singapore Biennale 2008 at the Old Supreme Court and the South Beach Development.
We have to pay $5 for the entrance fee as it was student price. The normal rate was $10. We got a booklet
When I first stepped into the Old Supreme Court, we were ‘welcomed’ by oversized maggots on the staircase and carpet of the second floor. It looked real and somehow not as creepy as what a real maggot will look like. To some, it may even be cute and lovely.
After that, we saw the human-like gourd that the artist took a long time to carve it into that shape. There are 4 different types of emotions, displaying what we Chinese say, happiness, anger, sadness and joy.
What really caught my attention was the blackfield 2008, a site specific installation using sand and stainless steel painted by Ben-David Zadok. Standing from one side of the room, you will notice that all the flowers are coloured and there was great effort taken to carve each and every stainless steel. What really impressed me is that when you go to the other side of the room, the flowers are all black in colour. From this art piece, you can see the meticulous effort the artist put in to create this work piece. 
Another thing that caught my liking is the art piece situated next to it. It is called, I’m not expensive, 2008, an installation using aluminum plate, fibre glass, urethane paint, neon light with the courtesy of Pyo Gallery, Seoul. The art piece is an response to changes as you walk from one side of the art piece, the picture seem to move with it. So, from different angle, you get to the woman and man dancing, a woman carrying her child on her back as she walk, the car moving and the boy turning his head. From far, it looked like a 3-d thing but as you walked nearer, and then you will notice that it is dented inside.
This shows that art really is everywhere around us. We just have to take time to take a look at the things around us and appreciate it.

At first, my friends and I do not know what it was. After we read the description, then we realize that it was chewing gum! We were both shocked and impressed that a chewing gum can be a piece of art too!
As we walked along city hall, we also get to see another piece of art unexceptionally. It is called Fantasmas (Phantoms), 2008. As you walked pass, you will notice there was a blue and red transparent pane in front of a shopping mall. There are people going in and watched. As we were curious, we also went in to take a look. When you stepped into the blue pane, it depicts a female version of him. However, when you stepped into the red pane, it showed the artist in an uncomfortable place.
This shows that art really is everywhere around us. We just have to take time to take a look at the things around us and appreciate it.
